Alexandre Mouton House/Lafayette Museum

Author Shane Bernard will talk about the history and geography of one of Louisiana’s most interesting bayous. Bernard holds a Ph.D. in history from Texas A&M University and a degree in English from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is the author of five books and currently serves as historian and curator to McIlhenny Company in Avery Island, Louisiana.

Co-sponsored by Lafayette Public Library and the Alexandre Mouton House/Lafayette Museum.  Alexandre Mouton House/Lafayette Museum located at 1122 Lafayette Street, Downtown Lafayette.  The talk will be from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.  Doors open at 1:30 p.m.  Limited seating and admission is free.  Refreshments will be served.

“Dr. Lippi Leonpacher – The Flying Vet”: Alexandre Mouton House

Leslie Leonpacher will talk about her amazing grandfather, Dr. Lippi Leonpacher, a German immigrant who settled in Lafayette.

Dr. Leonpacher, one of the first licensed veterinarians in the area, specialized in large animals and would fly his 1939 model Piper Cub Coupe airplane to reach remote areas in Acadiana to treat his animal patients.  His pioneering methods for treating anthrax in cattle saved the lives of thousands of animals and revolutionized veterinary medicine.
