Latest edition to be distributed this weekend
Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) is releasing the latest edition of The Black Pages of Greater Lafayette, a directory of Black-owned businesses. Since the last edition was released in 2019, Black-owned businesses have nearly doubled, increasing from 350-650. “As we celebrate Black History Month, this is the perfect time for the 2021 release. It shows that Black entrepreneurship is alive and well in Lafayette and reminds us that African Americans are still dreaming about business ownership and working hard to make those dreams come true,” LCG Chief of Minority Affairs Carlos Harvin said. The publication also includes in a few dozen businesses adjacent to Lafayette Parish, mainly the Rayne and Breaux Bridge areas.
Since 1980, LCG and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority have partnered to print The Black Pages of Greater Lafayette, every two years, to promote awareness of products and services, support entrepreneurship, and strengthen the economy. “As part of our Sorority's ongoing commitment to economic development, we feel that it is important to highlight these Black businesses and their contributions to our community. Our hope is that these businesses continue to flourish with the support of Lafayette and the surrounding areas,” Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Lafayette Alumnae Chapter President Geralyn Shelvin said.
Copies are first-come, first-served and will be distributed on Saturday, February 13, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center, 309 Cora Street. Pickup will be contactless, and drivers asked to remain in their cars.
Beginning Monday, remaining copies will be available at the following Lafayette Consolidated Government locations:

· Lafayette Public Library, Main Branch, 301 W. Congress Street
· Lafayette City-Parish Hall, 705 W. University
· Jesse Taylor Center, 111 Shirley Picard Dr. (off Mudd Street between Fire Station and the O.J. Mouton Pool
