Marcel Johnson, UL Lafayette Student and Ragin’ TV Producer.
How did Ragin' TV get started?
I mean there is a long story on how Ragin’ TV started but for years Ragin’ TV has been attempted to be started by various students at UL. It just never was able to get off the ground, but when the idea was brought to me I was hesitant to take it over because of the possibility of it also failing but conversations with different professors and mentors like Kevon Wilson we finally started to make it a possibility. And the first thing I had to do was obviously get me some help and that is when I called the now other executive producer of Ragin’ TV Kailtyn Johnson and she was completely on board with the whole idea. And from then on we spent countless nights putting together rosters and auditions for the anchors for our show. I always say I have much respect for the ones who started with us because they believed in an idea and trusted the process. Now we are in Season 3 of Ragin’ TV and only getting better. Everyone that has put their hands in Ragin’ TV deserves major shoutouts from everyone in front of the camera to behind!
What types of content do you cover?
We cover everything from current events mixed with local news which is our “What’s Happening Now?” segment originally started by our executive producer Kailtyn Johnson. Also, we cover sports which is called “ The Playbook” which touches on everything UL Sports to National Sports. Last but not least we have our “Cayenne Topics” segment which is more of our entertainment segment. The producers of each segment do a phenomenal job of finding topics and relaying them to the anchors. I really believe that we have a close group and they do not make it feel like it is a job or a class. They make it fun to work with them every week.
How often does your program air?
First on behalf of Ragin’ TV we want to thank AOC for airing our episodes. It started off with us just putting us on our social media platforms but we also wanted to be aired on television. Being on AOC was perfect and it started with us airing every two weeks but then the more comfortable we were we started airing every week. Our show is about 30 minutes and we also make fun segments as well.
What are you looking forward to for the future of the program?
I would have to say the future is extremely bright for Ragin’ TV. I mean without each person from Kailtyn, Raven, Elizabeth, Dawson, Jalen, Kobie, Kenny, Ashely, Nathan, Travis, Christina, and everyone else who has been apart of the growth of Ragin’ TV I can’t say it enough if it weren't for any of them there would be no Ragin’ TV. Even years down the line they are the pioneers of this thing. I really am excited to continue to see this thing grow in the future but I know that it is in really good hands. Also, looking forward to Ragin’TV expanding and growing even larger. Just like Kailtyn said, “20 years later I want to come back and still see Ragin’ TV thriving.” And I completely agree the whole point of starting Ragin’ TV for me was to help give opportunities for students who are interested in things more than just news. Just help give them an outlet to do something students love and also have some fun. I really enjoy seeing students continue to be a better version of themselves and Ragin’ TV is all about helping students be better and find a balance of fun and work.
